A dedicated server is a physical server located in one of our data centres. Unlike Web Hosting plans also referred to as "shared hosting" , which are technically managed by OVHcloud, you are fully responsible for the administration of your dedicated server. This guide will help you with the first steps of managing your dedicated server. When your dedicated server is first set up during the order process, you can select which operating system will be installed. From the General information tab, click on On the next screen, select either Install from an OVHcloud template or Install one of your templates in order to use a template for the installation. To be able to install a customised image on the server, choose the third option Install from custom image. Please refer to the BYOI guide to learn about the settings of this functionality. Some proprietary operating systems or platforms such as Plesk or Windows require licences which generate additional fees.
Why would you need a dedicated server (4 key reasons)?
Setting Up Your Server
Much like many other new site owners, you probably opted for shared hosting when you first launched your website. There are plenty of options, and you may have pondered, What is a dedicated server — and why do I need one? The answer lies in the reasons for wanting to upgrade in the first place. For example, you may be dealing with a rise in immediate traffic, or anticipating growth in the near future.
Knowledge to Power Your Website
Is your website slowing to a crawl? It could be due to increased traffic or poor shared server performance. A decline in performance is the most common sign that a move to a dedicated server would benefit your site. Slowdowns are also typical on improperly managed shared hosting platforms, where another site unrelated to yours can cause problems for you. But low-quality shared hosting can cause performance issues for websites. A VPS is just what the name implies, a virtual web server. A VPS provides many of the benefits of a dedicated server at a lower cost.
Picking the right hosting solution is one of the first and most important! This ensures that no other user will share the same resources or have access to your data. You also get full control over the server, so you can ensure your site is more secure and performs as well as possible.
